From leadership coaching to teacher development, policy advisory to program evaluation — we partner with schools and institutions ready to create lasting excellence.Â
Research-backed. India-rooted. Globally proven.Â
It was a Tuesday afternoon in a government school in Maharashtra.
We had just finished observing three back-to-back classes. The teachers were present. The students were seated. The lessons were delivered. And yet, something was missing.
After school, a tired principal pulled us aside and said quietly:
"You know, my teachers are not lazy and my students are smart. But they are lost. And honestly, I am tired."
That moment crystallised everything.
Not because it was unusual. But because it was everywhere.
In private schools in Mumbai. In public schools in Virginia. In government schools and colleges in Himachal Pradesh, Chhatisgarh and Uttarakhand. In education departments grappling with policy reforms that never quite reach the classroom as intended.
Good people. Real commitment. And a system that had never given them the tools, training, or leadership they deserved.
That is the problem Shiksha Ek Khoj was built to solve.
Your teachers, your students are not the problem. Let us help you find the solution.
We are not consultants who hand you a report and disappear.
Shiksha Ek Khoj is a research-driven ed improvement team led by Dr. Gopal Midha — one of India's most uniquely qualified educational leadership experts.
Dr. Midha brings something rare: he has lived the full arc of education — as a corporate professional, a K–12 classroom teacher, a higher education faculty member, a government policy adviser, a program evaluator, and an international researcher.Â
His team based in Mumbai and Himachal has spent over 30 years in corporate and educational domains. That breadth means we understand your challenges from every angle — not just from the outside looking in.
Our team has:
Designed and implemented School Excellence Programs in Mumbai
Advised India's Central Government on national teacher education policy and practice
Evaluated school programs across India and the United States
Collaborated with faculty at the University of Virginia and UCEA — a global leader in educational administration research
Published research in international peer-reviewed journals including the International Journal of Leadership in Education and Educational Management, Administration & Leadership
Seven Ways We Help Schools and Education Systems Excel

Research Partnerships Collaborative research with universities, think tanks, and international organizations on educational leadership, organizational learning, and diversity in education.
Theatre-Based Leadership Workshops Unique, experiential workshops using theatre, storytelling, improv and movement.
Diagnose where your school stands. Leave with a clear action strategy.Â
Build teacher skills, strengthen leadership, improve parent satisfaction.Â
Nurture systems for self-diagnosis, innovation and exponential growth
This unique program uses findings from the growing international research on 'meeting science' to design and conduct powerful and effective meetings to inspire change, build momentum, and deliver results.Â
Every engagement begins with deep listening.
We do not arrive knowing what your school needs. We arrive wanting to understand it. We observe classrooms. We speak with teachers, principals, parents, and students. We study your data. We examine your culture.
Only then do we design.
Our work integrates six evidence-based practices:
1. Needs and Strengths Analysis — We map what is working and what is not, using our research-validated School Excellence Framework and Learning Survey tools.
2. Leadership Development — We coach and train principals and academic leaders using approaches grounded in global research and adapted for Indian school contexts.
3. Teacher Professional Development — We design and facilitate PD that is play-based, research-backed, and built for adult learners — so that new skills actually transfer into classrooms.
4. Communities of Practice — We build peer learning structures within your school that sustain improvement long after our engagement ends.
5. School Improvement Cycles — We use design thinking to run structured cycles of inquiry, action, and reflection — creating momentum that compounds over time.
6. Program Evaluation — We measure what is changing, report on it honestly, and use findings to sharpen the work in real time.
We partner with:
School Owners & Principals — Private, government-aided, and international schools seeking sustained improvement in leadership, teaching quality, and institutional culture
State Education Departments — Government bodies seeking research-based advisory on teacher education reform, NEP 2020 implementation, and school leadership development
NGOs & Education Foundations — Organisations working to improve educational outcomes in underserved communities across India
Universities & Research Institutions — Academic partners seeking collaboration on educational leadership research, program evaluation, and faculty development
International Schools — Schools seeking to blend global best practices with deep Indian pedagogical and cultural wisdom
Some educators study schools. I have lived inside them — in five countries, across every role that matters.
My path to educational leadership weaves international research and a goal-driven mindset with Indian ethos— and that is precisely what makes me effective.
I began my career in international banking, spending 8 years in the corporate world before making a deliberate, values-driven decision to step into a Mumbai classroom and teach middle schoolers. That shift was not impulsive. It was a calling.Â
What I found in that classroom launched a lifelong inquiry: Why do some institutions thrive while others — with equally talented people — struggle to find their footing?
Pursuing that question took me across institutions, geographies, and disciplines.
I earned an M.Ed. at the University of Massachusetts and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration at the University of Virginia — where I was awarded the prestigious Dean's Award for three consecutive years, 2016–2019, recognition reserved for scholars whose work demonstrates both academic excellence and real-world impact.
At UVA, I worked with faculty, collaborated with the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA), and partnered with the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service on initiatives to research and strengthen educational leadership in underperforming schools and colleges.
I taught leadership at the Masters program at Tata Institute of Social Sciences for 3 years, headed a policy and program eval desk to advise various state governments on research-led quality improvement which navigates the complexity of ground-realities in India. .Â
I walked into Dr. Gopal’s workshop for fun, but left transformed—teaching as creative, experiential art; building connection, engaging minds, sparking curiosity, thinking beyond boundaries. Grateful for this inspiring journey and lifelong learning.Â
Dr Deepali Ashok, Asst Prof, Mandi Univ, HP
Dr Gopal's session on Professional Mastery was truly insightful and added great value to my knowledge about teaching. Encouraged by the proficiency workshops, I have now started implementing such lessons activities in which ALL the children can fully participate!
Pragati Gala, Teacher,Pvt School Mumbai
The school transformation project helped us to adopt a more thoughtful and child centre system by integrating diverse approaches like inquiry based learning, collaboration, self reflection among educators, nurturing a culture of joyful reading and promoting both explicit and implicit values among children.Â
Manasi Patki, Principal, Pvt School Mumbai
Dr. Gopal Midha was vital to Vidhya Samiksha Kendra, Goa, in designing the PaRaS initiative. By developing targeted MCQ assessments, he helped close knowledge gaps and boost Parakh readiness. He consistently challenges assumptions, grounding our strategies in current research to fundamentally elevate teaching practices and student excellence.
Saieesh Gandhi, SCERT-Goa
Every week, school principals, school owners, and education officers tell us the same things:
"My teachers are exhausted and I don't know how to re-energise them."
"Parents question every decision. They've become adversaries, not allies."
"We invest in training and tech, but nothing seems to stick."
"Our students have real potential. They just can't seem to reach it."
These are not failures of effort. They are failures of system — and systems can be fixed.
That is exactly what we do.
We started Shiksha Ek Khoj because we believe that India's schools and institutions — and the remarkable people inside them — deserve better than what most improvement efforts offer.
Not more workshops. Not thicker reports. Not louder promises.
They deserve partners who show up, stay present, and do the hard, meaningful work alongside them.
If that is what you are looking for — we are ready.
